ASTOR Model KK

This was the very first Radio I bought for restoration - I like the concept - You slide a 78 record (either a 10" or 12" - its smart enough to know the difference) into the slot you can see below the radio dial, and bingo - it plays - very similar concept to a modern CD player, but of course the mechanics behind it are worlds apart

I'm not sure my abilities are up to something like this just yet - and I'd hate to destroy it.

Recently I saw a fellow Australian restoring one on YouTube - search for Dave Tipton and you'll find an excellent 3 part restoration of one of these little beatuies. And you'll learn a lot more off him than you will off me.

But anyway - here are a few photos of what mine looks like now - before I have touched it at all. It's pretty rough. It looks like someone has started having a go at restoring it - it looks like the top might have been re-veneered, and the front arch remade. There is evidence of sanding on the left hand side of the base. But nevermind - it basically all seems there, and I'll get stuck into it once I feel I am up to the job - I'll try some less valuable (to me) radios to learn what I'm doing before I get started on this one.
